Photogrammetry & Scale Calculator

How tall is the creature in that photo? This tool uses single-image photogrammetry principles to calculate the approximate size of an unknown object by comparing it to an object of a known height within the same scene. This moves analysis beyond simple guesswork and into the realm of quantitative measurement.

How to Use the Calculator

  1. Upload an Image: Select a photo that contains both your unknown object and a reference object (like a person, car, or fence post) at a similar distance from the camera.
  2. Input Known Height: Enter the real-world height of your reference object and select the appropriate unit.
  3. Calibrate Reference: Click "Calibrate Reference." The instructions will guide you to click on the **top** and then the **bottom** of the known object in the image. A green line will appear.
  4. Measure Anomaly: Click "Measure Anomaly." The instructions will now guide you to click on the **top** and then the **bottom** of the unknown object. A red line will appear.
  5. Review the Estimate: The tool will instantly calculate and display the estimated height of the unknown object based on your inputs.

Investigative Use Cases & Limitations

Sasquatch Sighting Analysis

A classic use case involves a photo of an alleged Sasquatch standing near a tree or a fence post. By entering the known height of the fence post (e.g., 4 feet) and calibrating to it, you can get a data-driven estimate of the creature's height, helping to determine if it falls within the typical 7-9 foot range reported in sightings.

UAP Size Estimation

If a photo captures a UAP hovering low over a known landmark like a house or a car, you can use that as your reference. By providing the approximate height of the house, you can calculate the rough diameter or height of the anomalous object, helping to differentiate between a small drone and a much larger craft.

Important Limitations

This tool provides an estimation, not an exact measurement. Its accuracy is highly dependent on a key factor: the reference object and the unknown object must be on a similar focal plane (roughly the same distance from the camera). If the reference object is much closer or further away than the anomaly, perspective distortion will lead to an inaccurate result.
